The Word was selected as '2004 Religious Magazine of the Year' by the PPAI.

Giving their reasons for selecting The Word the judges stated: "Through its easy to read and informative articles, The Word stimulates, challenges and entertains its readers. The Word has rediscovered its mission roots and features an article in every issue on the significant work for justice and the alleviation of poverty by Divine Word Missionaries in the Developing World."

The magazine's new design was also praised.
